Broken Into

Our house got broken into yesterday. They took 2 tvs, my work laptop, camera and ipod.

And you know what? I don't care.

Yeah, interesting view, huh?

I think we are very lucky to have homeowner's insurance. Nothing sentimental got taken (thank goodness I wore my engagement ring that day - I almost didn't). I think it may help that I got broken into about 10 years ago. It doesn't seem as frightening.

But I think infertility has put perspective on things. The trauma I feel I'm going through right now just doesn't compare. As my husband says 'it's just stuff'. And as Rebecca eloquently puts it with dealing with her grief and what she's learned: We would trade every material thing we have to have our daughter healthy & with us.

So, take all the tvs you want... I just want a baby.

  1. I am so very sorry, but your perspective is amazing. It is just stuff, there are so many more important things. I sincerely hope that your home owners insurance covers all the losses.

  5. You amaze me! Seriously, I would generally agree with the "it's just stuff" approach, but I think I'd be a lunatic if someone broke into my house. My hat's off to you! That's great.

That said, sorry you lost some "stuff." Still sucks!

  6. So sorry that you got hit by one of life's other stresses. I hope you can replace the things you lost quickly, and that soon you'll have a little one to share the 'stuff' with. x

  7. I am sorry. We experienced a break in several years ago a week before christmas. They took all the presents and I felt the same way. It was just material stuff. No one was hurt.

  8. You are so right, how very Zen of you. It is just stuff but it still sucks, so sorry. My job is to work with people like yourself, victims of crimes (but the offenders need to be caught), I wish more of my victims could embrace your Zen-like approach.

  9. Sh*t. I am so sorry about your stuff, but more sorry about the inconvenience of replacing it, changing locks, etc. That's the real hassle. and the anger of having someone up in your stuff. Argh.

Its funny, it seems when something gets broken or lost now, M. gets all kinds of worked up, like that broken glass or missing camera lens are symbolic of all that he has lost and that the loss doesn't stop. Me, I just kind of shrug, ask myself, can it be replaced? Yes? Great. No big thing. Its just a thing.

  12. Blah that sucks, but you have a fabulous outlook. :)

We were robbed almost five years ago, but unfortunately they did take sentimental stuff, like my HS class ring. I've just let those things go. They are just material items.

  13. You are absolutely right! What is more awesome is that you could have that perspective right in the moment that happened. That is probably the hardest part.

Thanks for helping me remember to have that perspective.
Thanks for your comment on my blog. You're awesome!
